I am at one of those moments now. I had an in-depth discussion with someone recently, and thus gave me another article to write. It was clear to me that this was nothing more than materialistic and ignorance thinking on their part. Here are the events that lead to this... They went out and bought a new camera. Not just any camera, one that is worth more than my car, no they were not a professional, and not even what I would classify as a hobbyist. The reasoning behind ‘this’ camera was they had to be better than everyone else, and with a camera like this they will get better pictures. WRONG! It is not the camera that takes the pictures it is the person and their ability of vision. I have seen the images from this camera, and yes the quality and focus is there, however, my son could have taken that same photograph with a disposable. Their thinking is all wrong, and therefore disappointed with their new investment. Oh and get this, they blamed the camera.
Let's face it, the camera does not make a photographer, nor will it take amazing pictures if you don't know how to use it, or understand some very basic composition techniques. Yes, I am sure that over time you will get better, 1000's of pictures later, but who wants to wait that long? You have invested a lot of money, now invest just a little time. In only a few short weeks, taking an online course you could unlock the full potential of your camera and yourself. Such courses are not expensive, and some are even offered for free.
People see majestic landscapes and professional looking portraits, and assume that this was take by a professional with a professional camera. This is not always true. I have students that are far less experienced than myself, but amaze me, inspire me, and blow my mind on a regular base. You don’t have to have qualifications, spend years training, just a little guidance and you are on your way.
Would you not like to stop taking pictures, and start taking photographs? Snapshots are just that, photographs inspire people. Create images that are works of art, time and time again. Learn to ‘see’ and stop taking the cliché pictures, learn to step out of that box. Take professional looking family, friend, pet photographs, without having to hire a pro to do it for you. Learn to use the camera to it’s full potential, stop driving your Ferrari in first gear.
Take a look at some of the free courses, and how inexpensive it is to take an on-line course. It only takes a couple of weeks, and you will keep what you have learned for a lifetime. http://learning.rmcphee.com |
